LUCID MOTORS FASTER AND FARTHER...CHECKMATE TESLA

he EV market is about to get a lot more interesting, with Lucid Motors set to release their first model, the Lucid Air, in the upcoming months. The Lucid Air is more than just an electric vehicle; it's an expeditious luxury sedan, and when compared to a Tesla, it's almost decadent. In this article, there won't be any claims that Lucid Motors is the "Tesla Killer"...But good gosh, the battery and powertrain technology is something to be taken seriously. With the news that came from Lucid Motors on August 25th, 2021, the Lucid Group backed Tesla into a coroner with their seemingly superior battery and powertrain technology. So there is only one thing left to say: Checkmate, Tesla.

Lucid Motors announced that the Dream Edition will come in two distinct versions. Before we talk about the different Dream Edition variants, let me say that this announcement was a surprise for many retail investors, reservation holders, and Lucid Group fans. There was a lot of speculation on social media about what news would come out on August 25th. But I don't think anyone was expecting Lucid Motors to unveil two Dream Edition variants.  

Lucid Dream Edition reservation holders will now be able to choose what variant they want. They can either choose from the Dream Edition Performance, which will have a powertrain honed for speed and acceleration, or pick the Dream Edition Range optimized to get that juicy 517 miles of range. But don't worry, the Dream Edition R will still pack 933 horses. For reference, one of my favorite cars is the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series; the AMG has 720 hp and goes 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. The Dream Edition R makes AMG GT Black Series look measly.

Lucid Dream Edition Performance

As stated earlier, the Dream Edition P will have a powertrain honed for speed and acceleration. It will have an astonishing 1,111 hp with 1000+ Nm to move its immense body from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. What's more impressive is how Lucid Motors only uses two motors to achieve these numbers, compared to the Tesla Model S Plaid that has three motors and 1,020 hp. 

Why Two Variants?

To be honest, there's not much information about why Lucid Motors decided to have two different versions of the Dream Edition; there is speculation that Lucid Motors could not engineer a car that could have 1,080 hp and 500+ miles of range, but it doesn't make sense if you start to look at the numbers.

It's a pissing contest between Elon Musk of Tesla and Peter Rawlinson of Lucid. Lucid Motors wants to show the world how good their technology actually is. They want people to know that the Dream Edition comes with an interior, has more range, and more horsepower than any other EV made. 

Back in May, Elon Musk tweeted this:

Stating that Peter Rawlinson was NEVER chief engineer, but according to a blog on the Tesla website posted in 2010, it clearly states that Peter Rawlinson was indeed Chief Vehicle Engineer.

So The Daily Lucid Take Is This

It's a game of chess, and Lucid Motors pulled a Zwischenzug; they want to show the world what they are capable of, all while giving the customers a prodigious choice of range or more performance. Some customers may not need the extra performance, and some customers may not need the extra range. But what ever the decision is, It's a win-win.
