ucid Motors officially announced that the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range had received an official EPA rating of 520 miles of range on a single charge. Achieving this milestone is significant; no other EV company has yet to reach a range this impressive. The Dream Edition R is the longest-range EV ever rated by the EPA, delivering 100+ miles of additional range over its closest competitors.

Last month in August, Lucid performed a real-world first drive with Motor Trend, driving from Los Angeles to Lucid's global headquarters in San Francisco one single charge. This real-world use case demonstrates the marvelous battery technology that lucid motors have implemented into their vehicles.

I’m delighted that our Lucid Air Dream Edition Range has been officially accredited with a range of 520 miles by the EPA, a number I believe to be a new record for any EV. Crucially, this landmark has been achieved by Lucid’s world-leading in-house EV technology, not by simply installing an oversize battery pack,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group.

The Best Battery Technology in The EV Space

Lucid has developed awe-inspiring battery technology. Their innovative strides in battery tech led them to supply the pinnacle of electric racing. Formula E. If you ever watched an early Formula E race during the halfway point in the Grand Prix, racers would pit, get out of their race car and jump into an identical race car that was fully charged. During that era of Formula E, the racecars could simply not make it an entire race; the battery technology was really lacking. Atieva, now Lucid Group, came to Formula E with new technology that doubled energy capacity, enabling races to be completed with a single charge, transforming the sport forever.

That same proprietary know-how and intellectual property developed for Formula E has been translated into Lucid’s vehicles, which is why the Lucid Air can achieve these incredible numbers.

Our race-proven 900V battery and BMS technology, our miniaturized drive units, coupled with our Wunderbox technology endow Lucid Air with ultra-high efficiency, enabling it to travel more miles from less battery energy. The next generation EV has truly arrived! Said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group.

Lucid’s Power Unit

Lucid Motors has developed a drive unit that has increased efficiency and power output while reducing the physical size and weight. They did this by combining the Motor, transmission, and inverter in one unit.

Lucid's Drive Unit is so compact it can fit in an airplane carry-on. The Lucid’s drive unit is a feat of engineering; it is the world's most powerful motor for its size and weight. Each unit can generate up to 670 hp while weighing just 163 lbs. But wait, there's more! The horsepower to weight ratio (HP/KG) is staggering. To put this in perspective, Lucid Air will have a 9.0 HP/KG ratio…another American EV brand that starts with a T has a 3.2 ratio. Lucid Air models now occupy the top six positions for overall EPA range ratings among all EVs, as well as the highest MPGe ratings in the Large vehicle class.

Compared To Other Competitors

Lucid Air's battery capacity is 113 kWh (kilowatt-hour) versus 98 kWh for Tesla Model S Plaid. In terms of the time it takes to charge, Tesla Model S Plaid takes almost 15 minutes for 200 miles worth of charge. Lucid Air takes 20 minutes to charge for 300 miles.
